Books with Barbers is as 501c3 dedicated to helping close the gap of young African American males in the area of literacy. The goal of the organization is to fully equip local barbershops with libraries that attract the interest of school aged boys.
The founder of Books with Barbers has a true passion for seeing children succeed. She has earned three collegiate degrees in education and has taught in the public school system for over ten years. As an educator, she has worked effortlessly to impact student’s lives in Guilford County School District, Chapel-Hill City Schools, and Richland School District w2. Outside of her classroom, Ms. Mix has also served as Secretary for the North Carolina Association of Educators, President of Kappa Delta Pi (an international educational honor society), has served as a school poverty coach , team leader, appointed mentor to new teachers and most recently served on the School Leadership Committee for Richland School District 2.
This initiative has a goal of positively impacting our local neighborhoods and all of the families they serve.
All monies received goes directly to purchasing new literacy stations to be installed within the barbershop. Literacy stations include brand new books, a new bookshelf, and a seating area for children to utilize and enjoy.
